The proper approach to imposing sanctions: MacLeod v The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (The Disciplinary Committee of the RCVS) [2006] UKPC 39

The courts are increasingly stressing the importance of tribunals considering all sanctions before imposing a greater sanction. For example, a finding of the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons was overturned, inter alia, on the ground that the committee ‘did not avowedly consider whether a reprimand or warning would have sufficed to establish the proper principles relating to the carrying out of treatment and the supply of medicines by listed veterinary nurses and prevent the repetition of incorrect practices.’.
